Dearest friends, I have nothing to tell you this letter, other than: Please consider backing my Kickstarter for Gun It! It’s a cooperative, highly thematic tabletop game. The way I would describe it is simply: A love letter to that expectant moment in an action movie, just before all hell breaks loose. The coolest moment is not the ending, but that tension as the guns are cocked, everyone’s steeling themselves for what’s about to happen.
Emily says it might be my best game yet, or at least her favorite! I say it’s really good, too, and captures a surprising emotional bit of what I hoped. Finn says the game is not as good as a firetruck or BART. That’s less relevant, but it’s super important to him, and I’m here for it.
15 days remain, and I’d love your support, even if that’s just spreading the word to any board gamers you know.
I recorded a podcast interview a few weeks ago, and in it, the host asked me if I took any lessons from Roll In One, and I answered that I probably was shooting myself a little in the foot with this new game. Why, you ask? One of the key lessons I’ve taken from some of my successful board game designer pals is that customers value unique physical components. When you look at the product, where’s the cool miniature item? Where is the element that you can’t just get at a local printer? ‘Gun It’ is cool, but it has nothing to do with the physical components, it is all about the experience at the table. This is more difficult to sell. I may have a unique coin (HEADlights and TAILpipes), but overall it’s just a tight, complete product, and that makes it a little trickier for the average kickstarter backer to see the appeal. Regardless, the game has a good chance of funding, and I am incredibly excited to see this come out. It’s not going to be for everyone, but I bet there is nothing else like it. (Or if there is, I guess tell me?)
I have some other things on my mind, like This Spotify Playlist, and how I’m a fan of the refurbished Steam Deck that I got in November, and that I’m infrequently playing Insomniac’s Spider Man.
But mostly, I’m just thinking about my board game, and finding the next paid gig, like all game devs.
Love,
Randy O
